Dry skin is almost inevitable at this time of the year, but there are a couple of things you can do to minimize this problem.

  1. Stay hydrated by drinking at least eight glasses of water each day.  This is so basic, but many people just simply do not get enough fluids.  It is important to drink water, not juice, soda, tea or coffee.
  2. Exfoliate regularly and then apply a moisturizer.  There are many good products on the market.  Personally, I like organic skin care products.  It just makes sense to me not to use products with artificial ingredients and chemicals.
  3. Steam from a hot shower can actually make your skin drier, so try to take a shorter shower with cooler water.  Hard to do, I know, on those cold mornings.
  4. Use a humidifier to keep moisture in the air at home.
  5. Minimize the skin’s exposure to harsh cold and winds by bundling up when you go outside.
